Johannes Bendzulla’s artistic work reflects the possibilities and contradictions of an increasingly digitalized image culture. His works all exhibit a strong physical presence that defines real space as the primary sphere of experience. The charged relationship between virtuality and physical presence is a recurring motif in his artistic practice, as is the exploration of the contradictions between digital—and thus mathematical—abstraction and the literally incalculable “real” world that is increasingly being masked by it.
Johannes Bendzullas künstlerische Arbeit reflektiert auf vielfältige Weise die Möglichkeiten und Widersprüche einer zunehmend digitalisierten Bildkultur. Seine Arbeiten weisen alle in unterschiedlicher Form eine starke physische Präsenz auf, welche den Realraum als primären Erfahrungsraum definiert. Das Spannungsverhältnis zwischen Virtualität und physischer Präsenz ist ein wiederkehrendes Motiv seiner künstlerischen Praxis, ebenso wie die Auslotung der Widersprüche zwischen einer digitalen – und somit mathematischen – Abstraktion und einer wortwörtlich unberechenbaren „realen“ Welt, welche zunehmend von dieser überlagert wird.
